New initiatives to improve your GP practice

We are writing to you to tell you about exciting new changes happening at Waterside Medical Centre which will help safeguard the future of the practice and improve the service we are able to offer you.

NHS England regards more than 10% of GP practices as “vulnerable”, meaning that in the worst cases they may not be viable in the long term. Waterside Medical Centre is no exception. The good news is that we are doing something to tackle this and help you.

In December 2015 we launched the Same Day Access Service in collaboration with Stoke Road, Forton and Brune Medical Centres enabling you to access medical advice and treatment on the same day. This has freed up time for the practices to be able to offer more routine appointments thus allowing earlier access for those with ongoing conditions.

New partnership

Building on this success, the senior management team at Waterside has agreed to look into further working with the other three practices and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. With the reduction in NHS funding and the increasing difficulty of recruiting new GPs, we consider this collaborative approach vital to the provision of better local healthcare for our patients at Waterside Medical Centre. This partnership with Southern Health NHS Trust will take effect soon and provides much needed security for our staff as well as opening doors to new ways of working and developing solutions to the workforce pressures we face.

What does this mean for you?

It enables us to keep running and give you a wider access to the specific care you need.

  • The contact telephone number for the practice remains the same, so please continue to call 023 9258 3344 for your appointment or visit our website http://www.watersidemedicalcentre.nhs.uk/
  • There will be no change to staffing – but you may now see additional staff members such as pharmacist, mental health nurses and others as part of our new way of working

What’s new to help improve your care?

Better Local Care – a partnership between local NHS and care organisations, GPs and charities – is all about you getting the right care early on, reducing the number of referrals you get from one service to another, and putting you in touch with the right clinical team from the start. Initiatives under this include: Surgery Signposting, Same Day Access Service, eConsult (online appointments), pharmacy availability in the practice and lots more. For more detail please visit: www.betterlocalcare.org.uk

Any questions?

Please speak to reception if you have any questions or concerns. You can also keep up-to-date via our website: http://www.watersidemedicalcentre.nhs.uk/ Facebook page and twitter feed.

Kind regards,

Better Local Care

At Waterside, we are committed to providing the best patient care that we are able to. As a team we pro-actively look for new ways to improve our current services.

In December 2015 we launched the Same Day Access Service in collaboration with Stoke Road, Forton and Brune Medical Centres. This has proved to be of benefit to our patients who need access to a clinician on the same day. The practices have also benefited by being able to provide more routine appointments thus allowing earlier access for those with ongoing conditions.

Building on this success, the senior management team at Waterside have agreed to look into further collaborative working with the other three practices and Southern Health NHS Trust. With the reduction in NHS funding and the increasing difficulty of recruiting new GPs, we see this co-operative approach to providing better local care as vital to the future health of our patients at Waterside Medical Centre.

Your named GP

Every patient is registered with Waterside Medical Centre and you are able to see any GP you prefer. You also have a Named GP who is responsible for the co-ordination of all appropriate services and ensure they are delivered where required (based on the named GP's clinical judgement) to each of their patients. The role of the Named GP will not: take on vicarious responsibility for the work of other doctors or health professionals take on 24-hour responsibility for the patient, or have to change their working hours, imply personal availability for GPs throughout the working week, be the only GP or clinician who will provide care to that patient. Your Named GP is quoted on correspondence from us or you can ask at Reception.

Welcome to Waterside Medical Centre

Welcome along to our surgery website where we hope you will quickly benefit from a user friendly layout and a wealth of information about our healthcare services. Find out when we’re open and what to do when we’re not, all from the comfort of your own home.

Our Practice Team aims to provide a confidential and efficient service in a secure and safe environment, promoting health as well as caring for you when you are ill. We will undertake to treat you with dignity, respecting and taking into account your wishes and opinions regardless of your race, colour, ethnic or national origin, belief, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, age or disability.

Access

The surgery is a two storey building with reserved car parking spaces for the disabled and ramps for wheelchair access at the front entrance. If the car park is full, alternative parking (from January 2014 free for up to 4 hours, no return in 12 hours) is available at Cooperage Green, off Weevil Road, a short walk away. There is a bus service (number 10) stopping right outside the surgery.

Most patient services are provided on the ground floor; however, a lift and stairs provide access to the first floor consulting rooms. Disabled toilets are located at both the ground and first floor levels.

The building and grounds are non-smoking and protected by CCTV.

Online Services are available

You can register for the new service hereYou will only be allowed to book a single appointment until you show us photo ID. This is because the system allows you access part of your medical record.
